A few months ago Cornell withdrew their plans for massive wind power generation on Mount Pleasant, rumor has it because of FAA opposition. At last Thursday's Town Board meeting, the subject of wind power was back on the agenda, thanks to the Tompkins County Environmental Management Council (EMC).
The EMC had sent the Town a model wind ordinance (395KB PDF or 519KB PDF selectable). It didn't sit well.
The board was clearly interested in creating an ordinance allowing residential-scale wind towers, but it sounded like it will be a while before they'll consider anything other than barring large-scale commercial generation. Councilman Marty Christofferson talked about seeing huge wind towers on the Tug Hill plateau, and how his feelings for them ran like "That's really cool... now take them down."
