Project Dryden Child event today

The Project Dryden Child fundraiser event will be today from noon to 4:00pm at Neptune Hose Company, 26 North Street, Dryden (map). Sponsored by the Varna Community Association's New Moms Group, the event is raising money to help the little boy who was assaulted in January.

The event includes:

  • A spaghetti dinner

  • A 50/50 raffle

  • A quilt raffle

  • A loose change roundup

  • Performances by the Sweet Adelines, Bill Sherwood's Round & Square Dance Band, and Crossroads the Clown

Unfortunately I can't make it today, but I strongly encourage everyone to get there. It's a great response to a horrible tragedy, and I'm especially impressed to see lots of different parts of the Town of Dryden come together to support this family.

Sorry you had to miss a fine Dryden event. It was first class, and the sponsors and organizers are to be truly commended. I went over about 1PM, in time to have a nice spaghetti dinner, and to hear the Sweet Adelines give one of their excellent performances. After them, I enjoyed Bill Sherwood's band. And there was to be more entertainment, which unfortunately I did not get to experience before I had to leave.

The number of volunteers manning everything from the front door, to the various tables, to the kitchen, was amazing. The bakesale was one of the best I have seen (and tasted). There were door prizes, raffles, and a silent auction. I have to think that a very respectable amount of money was raised.

What really impressed me was the wide cross section of wonderful Drydenites who were there. Events like this reaffirm that when adversity strikes, the people of the Town of Dryden come together and give of themselves to help heal real and emotional scars. This fine event was one way people could collectively proclaim that conduct that hurts a child will never be condoned in our community.

I was very proud of the people of Dryden today.
