Cathy Wakeman's Dryden Town Talk column visits today with Matt Colbert, a Dryden High School student who is aiming for the big leagues. The left-handed pitcher and first baseman has been working with The Baseball Factory and is raising money to play in a winter tournament in Florida. She also writes about the participation of five Dryden churches in the CROP walk, raising funds to fight hunger, including at the Dryden Kitchen Cupboard.
The Monitor reports a DWI and a BB gun assault in Dryden.
The county budget saw some preliminary votes on overfunding requests, with support for a sex offenses investigator in the Sheriff's Department and a nurse focusing on autism at the Health Department. The contingency fund for jail overcrowding also got an increase.
On the opinion page Scott Heyman of Enfield writes to support Cheryl Nelson for Supervisor. A correction to an earlier guest column notes that Jim Crawford should have been identified as Dryden Republican Chair.
Update: I just noticed that today's guest column, by Ed Gottlieb on the Ithaca water treatment plant, notes that the Town of Dryden, as part owner, "would be responsible" if something goes wrong because of reduced staffing.
